                    percent

only 1% of the Brazilian population is fluent in English…*

*according to a survey by The British Council

and it’s a fact: most Brazilians dream of learning English. you can be part of that change

that's pretty huge!

ok, but why do it?

  • 01. earn
    money

remember when you told your family you were going to make money on the internet, and they laughed at you? I sure do. it was a Saturday. I know because my dad was wearing his polka-dotted tie. there was a chill in the air as I stood there trying to muster up the courage to confron-
    anyway.
    yeah, um.
    you can show them now.

    02. work from
    home

my research team tells me that there’s an 80% chance you are between the ages of 18 and 40, which puts you smack dab in the middle of the millennial generation.
let’s face it, you don’t wanna work in a freaking office.
I don’t wanna work in a freaking office.
I’m writing this on a hammock, in a coffee shop, on a cruise, on my way to Tokyo. this could be you.

*we don’t really uh… have a research team.
**ok, I am in an office, but you don’t have to be.
***just kidding. tutors must work in a quiet indoor setting, but you got it.

  • 03. stay

  • 05. give
    back

you’ve climbed this mountain yourself, but you didn’t do it on your own.
here’s a chance to give back to the community and help others through their English learning process.
plus, you will meet some really cool people along the way.

  • 06. keep
    learning

you know better than most people that maintaining a new skill, especially a new language, takes practice.
sure, you can take advantage of it. you can use it to keep practicing your communication skills and learn about others and their culture.

you probably have heard the saying:
“if you wanna master something, teach it”.
    so, that’s that.

faq

let’s talk basics

  • how do I apply for the tutoring position at Yo!?

Yo, welcome! First of all, you should register and apply here. You will have to fill in some personal and professional info, besides uploading a few videos where you will showcase your awesome English skills and your amazeballs personality. Remember to check the info on the dashboard home so that you know how to keep track of your application. Good luck, champ!

  • what are the main requirements for the position?

Buckle up, buttercup: you should be at least 18 years old, your English should be pretty fluent and proficient - and let’s not forget the importance of good communication skills though (no, it’s not the same!). Also, as much as we like freedom and parties and stuff, we need you guys to work in a quiet and distraction-free environment, okay? Oopsie, we almost forgot - you need a computer (laptop/desktop), a reliable and fast internet connection, and superb audio and video equipment. We must also check an official ID with your picture, name, date of birth, and nationality to ensure you are you. We never know, right?

  • how fast should my internet connection be?

Fast and furious! Joke, just fast - we don’t do furious around here. Fast means at least 25 Mbps (download speed against one of the São Paulo servers). If you can't have that speed for reasons you can't control, we can try it out with a minimum of 15 Mbps and run a QA test with you. The final decision will depend on that - we want to provide good quality service (no hard feelings, alright?)! You may use Speedtest to measure your connection speed - don’t forget to change the server accordingly.

  • are there any restrictions regarding tutors’ location/country of residence?

As much as we would like to allow people from all over the world to apply and work for us, we are limited to countries where Payoneer - the service we use to pay our people - operates. Check the official Payoneer website to see if your country is on the list (the list is available on the registration screen). Other than that, since we are a US-based company, we are sadly not allowed to hire individuals from countries embargoed/sanctioned/restricted by the US government. Please check the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) website for reference.

  • what does the recruitment process look like?

Here’s the deal: after you submit your application, our busy bees will check it out, and if we think you’re a catch, we will invite you to The Convo. Our convos are 45 minutes long and not classic interviews, so rest assured you’ll have some fun while exchanging helpful information with one of our crew members. After this, we will let you know about the outcome in a few days, and if everything goes well, you will sign the contract, and we will request tons of stuff from you as we want your profile to be dope and fab! Once you submit all those things, you are ready to take on the world! (well, Brazil only for now, but you gotta start somewhere).

  • I haven’t received a confirmation email for my scheduled Convo. What should I do?

This is a system-related email, so it’s not like we’re ghosting you. First, ensure you haven’t missed any emails from us (check your spam and promo folders). If you cannot find the email, please contact us at [email protected].

  • what if I can’t attend my scheduled Convo?

Okay, we are a very serious company if you haven’t figured it out so far. We know that life happens, so it’s okay to reschedule your appointment. Just let us know you won’t show up before the meeting at [email protected], or email us as soon as possible to let us know what happened. No one likes to get stood up, right?

  • how soon can I expect to start working?

Hold your horses, babe - there are a few things that you need to do before we activate your account:

    - Submit your profile information (photos, video, introduction, etc.)
    - Submit your payment information (this can be done after account activation as well)
    - Sign the contract

You will have up to 30 days to submit all data. We will send you reminder emails if you forget to do some of these things. We got you.

  • how soon can I reapply if I don’t pass the screening/Convo?

Babes, check the email we sent you – that information is there. Of course, you can always email us to double-check. We know you like talking to us.

  • is having a teaching certificate an advantage?

Is Earth round? While this will certainly attract yosers, it’s not a requirement for the position, so worry not if you don’t have one. Remember that your best advantage is being a one-of-a-kind conversationalist willing to teach yosers through fun and educational conversations.

  • if I don’t pass, can I delete the information I submitted upon applying?

Sure, no problemo! For us to do this, you must submit a detailed request and email us at [email protected]. We may ask you for additional info, though. We will delete your data except for the following deets:

    Name
    Nationality
    Email address
Passport scan (for identification purposes only)
    1 assessment video
    Interview video recordings

The above information will be retained for 12 months after requesting or withdrawing from the selection process. The purpose of this is to monitor and prevent fraud reapplications of applicants. All other information not mentioned will be deleted permanently. Please refer to our Tutor Privacy Notice for more deets.
